It’s been a while since we’ve given a ChipWits update, so I wanted to take a moment to share what our team has been working on, and what’s new with ChipWits 1.3, released just now!
This release is more than a content patch. It is a foundational update that will prepare us for what’s next for ChipWits. We’ve done a lot of work under the hood to remove our dependencies on Steam-specific APIs. While that might sound boringly technical, it’s actually a huge milestone because it paves the way for us to bring ChipWits to other platforms (like mobile!) in the near future (stay tuned).
At the moment, we’re looking at iPad, Android Tablet and Chromebook versions of the game next. Please let us know in the comments if there are other platforms you’d like to see ChipWits running on!
But for today, here is what you need to know about ChipWits 1.3:
1. New Challenge: “Set the Table”
We’ve introduced a new tile type called a Surface. Surfaces behave like walls in that you can’t skate past them, but you can place items on top of them (like plates on a tabletop).
To help demonstrate this feature, we’ve added a new ChipWit Challenge mission called “Set the Table.” It highlights these new mechanics and challenges you to set the table with a minimum number of cycles. I’m curious to see what kind of solutions you come up with!
The challenge closes on Feb 2, 2026, so give it a try today!

2. One Community, One Leaderboard
Previously, our Demo players and Full Game players lived in separate worlds. With 1.3, we have merged the leaderboards!
- Demo Players: You can now see how your scores stack up against the veterans.
- Veterans: Watch your backs… there are expected to be some very optimized ChipWits coming out of the demo community!
We’ve also enhanced the leaderboards to automatically record an encrypted version of your solution. This allows us to publish videos of the best solutions after the challenge closes!
We really appreciate it when you share ChipWits with your friends and gaming communities. A larger community means more competition and more creative solutions for everyone to learn from!
3. A New Price to Welcome New Players
Finally, as we prepare for the next phase of ChipWits’ life, we want to make it easier for more people to discover the game.
Starting with this release, we are permanently dropping the price of ChipWits. Check out the new price on our Steam page.
If you’ve been on the fence, or if you have a non-technical friend who you think would love a new type of puzzle experience (or a technical friend who loves optimizing code), now is the perfect time to jump in and support our game!
We aren’t worried about hitting “top seller” lists. We just want to build the best game possible for the people who love this kind of puzzle.
Happy coding, and please use the comments section below to let us know what you think of the new changes!
And if you’re enjoying the game, please leave us a review on Steam!
