ChipWits Discount for “The Secret History of Mac Gaming” Book

Richard Moss, author of the book The Secret History of Mac Gaming, has agreed to give ChipWits fans an additional ÂŁ5 off for those who use the code CHIPWITS when ordering his book. That’s on top of the existing ÂŁ5 discount, bringing the price down to ÂŁ19.99 (approximately $24.99 USD), just in time for the holidays! Note we don’t stand to gain anything from each book sale – we just think it’s an excellent book and worth supporting Richard’s work. Especially since he highlights ChipWits!

Read on for my thoughts on the book…

I just took a trip back to 1984—when a computer mouse was a novelty and when two inexperienced guys with a good idea could develop a bestselling game. Richard Moss’s delightful book, The Secret History of Mac Gaming, brought back sweet memories of Mac’s early gaming scene.

When Mike Johnston and I created ChipWits it was one of the first games on the Mac. Moss’s book dives deep into the chaos of the early Mac gaming scene—shareware and BBSs and a lack of knowledge about programming the amazing new computer. I had forgotten Cap’n Magneto and The Dungeon of Doom.

Moss does a good job of reporting on the creation of ChipWits, reminding me of all-night brainstorming, coding, and playtesting sessions fueled by coffee and pie.

I was pleased to see a full page of ChipWits graphics featured in the book.

Mac game developers and players need to buy this book. When someone tells you the Mac isn’t a game machine, pull out this book and dazzle them with its celebration of Mac gaming culture.
