Celebratory Puzzle
November 2024 marks the 40th Anniversary of ChipWits, and to celebrate we have lots of surprises lined up for this month! One of them is a new puzzle challenge called “Happy 40th!”
In November of 1984, ChipWits captivated players with its innovative challenge of programming an adorable robot to navigate puzzles, gather Goodies, and zap Baddies. The game was also ported to the Commodore 64 and Apple II in 1985. You can play the original versions in emulation right in your browser.
This month’s challenge features a retro-inspired 1-bit tileset reminiscent of the original Mac version.
40th Birthday Pie
For its birthday, we baked ChipWit a pie. Your mission? To guide ChipWit to gobble up all 40 birthday candles in as few cycles as possible.
There are two challenges to this puzzle:
- Find the shortest path to eat all 40 candles
- Get your code to work regardless of which way ChipWit starts facing (you start facing in a random direction)
To test your code fairly, we try 32 random seeds. Your solution must pass all 32 seeds to be valid.
When your solution is accepted, it will be compared against the global leaderboard for fewest cycles used. See if you can get the World Record!
How To Play
To play:
- Install the ChipWits Demo (add us to your Wishlist if you haven’t already!)
- Select the “Happy 40th” Puzzle from the Puzzle Selection Screen
- See if you can top the leaderboard with the fewest Cycles Used
- Discuss the highest scores in our ChipWits Discord Server
- Post a screenshot of your score to our Discord Server if you believe you have the highest!
The challenge ends on the last day of November.
