Dear Friends of ChipWits,

Thanks for playtesting ChipWits.

Our goal is to get ChipWits in shape for a beta shareware release ASAP.

We will have an installable Mac/Linux version ASAP. Mac and Linux users (with the Flash Player installed) can play ChipWits here [just hit "continue" when the first error dialog comes up], but can't load or save ChipWit files.. . Works on some Macs, not others. As soon as I have a little spare cash I will buy a used Mac so I can build and test an installer.

Feel free to show the game to others but don’t share the program until we are ready to launch the shareware beta – then share away!

Baddies aren’t working yet. I’ll have Electrocrabs and Bombs doing their thing ASAP.

Geeky stuff:

• I am coding this version in Adobe Flex. I developed the original ChipWits in FORTH (hence the stacks). I plan to use AMFPHP for the db plumbing for www.chipwits.com . I use Zinc to create the installable Windows exe. I will create a Mac downloadable when I get access to a Mac for testing. Zinc also lets me read and write ChipWits files. Looking forward to evaluating Adobe Apollo.
• I will try to keep the same chipwit file format (a simple text file format) from now on so nobody will have to re-enter their IBOL code. I’ll TRY to do that.
• Future of ChipWits – Take a look at http://www.opencroquet.org/ - an open source virtual reality project. If Croquet takes off I’ll give it a good hard look as a platform for 3D multi-player ChipWits. I’d also like to take a look at implementing ChipWits inside Second Life.
• Anyone want to port ChipWits to the OLPC – One Laptop per Child - machine?
